"Cire Perdue" Jewelry Technique
What is the "Cire Perdue" Technique?
The "Cire Perdue" technique is a method of casting metallic objects (usually bronzes) used since classical antiquity to create exclusive and sculptural jewelry.
The process involves creating a model in real wax, which is then coated with investment and heated in an oven to harden the investment and melt the wax. The resulting metal mold is honed and polished, creating a unique piece of jewelry that is truly a work of art.
This technique is widely used by jewelers who wish to create unique and distinct pieces, as it allows great creative freedom and enables the production of highly detailed and complex jewelry. Furthermore, this technique also allows the reproduction of existing pieces, but with some changes and adaptations.
The Cire Perdue technique is quite complex and requires a lot of skill and experience on the part of the jeweler. To be able to create high-quality jewelry using this technique, you need to have a good knowledge of metal chemistry and know how to work with precision and care.
Virzi Jewelery's pieces use this technique and are manually executed by goldsmiths and handcrafted in Portugal.
